“Christian Gálvez is a very inventive, sensitive musician who if given the right musical information, can make a modest musical offering into a musical banquet.”
Billy Cobham
“Christian is a bass playing Pat Martino, a great technically wonderful bass player. He belongs to the small group of the young new modern bass geniuses.”
Jeff Berlin
“Christian Gálvez is a great musician, not just because of his virtuosity on the bass, but because he’s an excellent composer and improviser. I look forward to hearing about his new projects.”
Scott Henderson
Gálvez belongs to the generation of electric bass players that emerged in the post-Pastorius era. His approach to the instrument resonates with figures such as John Patitucci and Stanley Clarke, while Anthony Jackson stands as one of his most significant influences. From this lineage, Gálvez moves into distinctly personal musical territories, shaped by an original, virtuosic, and deeply musical voice. A refined and sophisticated use of harmony and chordal language lies at the core of his style, bringing his work conceptually closer to the great masters of chord melody such as Joe Pass, Tal Farlow, George Benson, and Pat Martino.
Among the most exquisite expressions of his vision of the instrument stands The Art of Chord Melody, (New York, 2019) where his musical voice enters into dialogue with figures such as Ron Carter, John Patitucci, Eddie Gomez, Dave Young, Pat O’Leary, Pablo Menares and Jorge Roeder.
Over more than two decades of artistic activity, he has developed a highly personal musical language that has significantly expanded the expressive possibilities of the electric bass. His work has taken him to major festivals in Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, the United States, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Russia, India, and throughout Europe, where he has shared the stage with artists including Billy Cobham, Ivan Lins, Luis Salinas, Toninho Horta, Frank Gambale, Stanley Jordan, Scott Henderson, Dennis Chambers, Eddie Gomez, among many others.

Present: “MORE THAN MUSIC” – A Tribute to Anthony Jackson
More Than Music is a distinctive concert project honoring Anthony Jackson, one of the most visionary bassists in modern music, celebrating the electric bass as a fully independent and expressive musical voice.
The program centers on music from Interspirit, Jackson’s first personal album, composed by acclaimed Greek bassist and composer Yiorgos Fakanas, a leading figure in contemporary jazz with an extensive international career and collaborations with artists such as Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, and Frank Gambale. Interspirit received international recognition and was included on the Grammy Awards pre-nomination list for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.
The tribute is led by two outstanding bassists whose artistic paths strongly reflect Anthony Jackson’s legacy. Christian Gálvez, the acclaimed Chilean six-string electric bassist, is internationally recognized for his virtuosic technique, deep musicality, and innovative approach to the instrument. He has performed and recorded with legendary artists such as Billy Cobham (Billy Cobham Band), Stanley Clarke (Stanley Clarke Band), Frank Gambale, Jojo Mayer, Dennis Chambers, Gary Willis, Dominique Di Piazza, Hadrien Feraud (The Masters of Bass), and Ivan Lins, among many others. Gálvez has released 25 albums and 3 DVDs on Pez Records and has appeared as a guest musician on over 500 recordings, positioning him as one of the most important contemporary exponents of the six-string bass tradition pioneered by Jackson.
Alongside him, Yiorgos Fakanas performs on four-string electric bass, bringing rare and authoritative insight into the original artistic vision behind Interspirit.
Joined by an exceptional international ensemble, the group reimagines the music through sophisticated harmony, strong grooves, lyrical improvisation, and dynamic interplay.
More than a tribute, this concert is a living artistic statement and a celebration of musical innovation.
José Luis Gutiérrez, has developed a personal musical language that moves naturally between jazz, free improvisation, and Iberian traditions. His work is marked by a strong sense of form, risk, and narrative, where composition and improvisation coexist as part of the same discourse. He has collaborated with musicians such as Jerry González, Perico Sambeat, and Chano Domínguez, and has been an active presence in the Spanish and European contemporary jazz scene for decades. Alongside his work as a sax performer, he has played a significant role as a festival director and artistic advisor, notably through Jazz en la Calle and Universijazz (Valladolid) and his long-standing involvement in the artistic direction of jazz and improvised-music festivals in the region, contributing a thoughtful, informed, and independent curatorial vision.
Together with the renowned Chilean bassist Christian Gálvez, they presented in the autumn of 2024 a project devoted to the great Latin American popular repertoire, revisited through a contemporary and distilled gaze. Styles and sound worlds intertwine, offering the pleasure of playing, listening, and rediscovering—through an original and invigorating perspective—a body of music that lives at the very heart of Ibero-American cultural memory.
